COMPETITION in the market is a key driver of innovation and Digicel Fiji chief executive officer Mike Greig believes that the telecommunications company has proved itself in the local and regional market.

The company celebrates its 10th year anniversary this month with loads of giveaways, free concerts and raising awareness and fundraising for the Fiji Cancer Society.

At a press conference at their headquarters in Nabua yesterday, Mr Greig said in the past 10 years they had brought innovations in the mobile market, influenced a substantial reduction the price of mobile phones and cost of usage, improved access to technology and responded to competition.

“Competition is good. In Fiji, we have a very competitive landscape and that brings many challenges in how we innovate, in how we prioritise, in how we invest out money.

“But competition is what has pushed Fiji to become one of the leading telecommunication markets in the region,” he said.

He said Digicel existed in emerging markets such as Fiji and had a successful track record with 95 per cent network coverage.

Mr Grieg said the company employed about 400 staff members, with major focus on their training and development.

He said Sky Pacific subscribers should expect more better content in the near future as the company had plans to bring in more innovative technology and better data services for its customers.

As part of the month long celebrations Fiji’s popular Vude Queen, Laisa Vulakoro will lead a group of top local artists for three hours of free concerts in Suva, Labasa, Savusavu and Nadi next month.

There will also be free giveaways including entertainment for children with bouncy castle, free popcorn, face-painting and other activities. All concerts will start at 4pm except for Savusavu which starts at 10 am on Saturday, October 20th.
