The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has suspended the vehicle registration of two companies for repeatedly overloading vehicles under their possession.
“Companies found to be frequently offending and demonstrating a continuous disregard of the LTA Act and Regulations with repeated offence will be show-caused and dealt with accordingly,” said LTA board chairperson Vijay Maharaj.
Six companies proved to be overloading their vehicles, where four were issued with a first and final warning, and the two mentioned above receiving a suspension of registration.
Nine vehicles in total between the two respective businesses have had their individual registrations suspended for a period of 12 months.
Through this 225 TINs, amounting to $1,069,000 were issued.
The LTA aims to provide a safe, efficient and sustainable land transport for the nation through partnerships with stakeholders, the government and the community, where initiatives such as this will emphasise its safety mission.
During the September and November period this year, a total of 12,880 trucks were weighed nationwide as a method to determine the possible overloading of these vehicles. Four portable scales utilised for the weight measurement of large vehicles has been acquired by the LTA, in addition to the five scales already possessed by the authority figure.
Training and development of employee skills for the officers conducting these measurements has been implemented.
