FIJI Electoral Law Reform Commission chairperson Daniel Fatiaki says as appointees of the commission, they will not respond to criticism made by politicians.

Last week, in Parliament, Opposition MP Ketan Lal criticised the leadership of the chairperson.

Responding to Justice Minister Siromi Turaga’s ministerial statement, Mr Lal said the electoral reform was not a routine administrative exercise but a fundamental democratic process that must be treated with the utmost neutrality, care and transparency.

“However, the Government’s conduct around this process raises significant red flags, not just for the Opposition, but for the general public as well,” he said.

During an interview in Navoci Village in Nadi yesterday, Mr Fatiaki said Mr Turaga had responded.

“I have nothing to say,” Mr Fatiaki said.

“The Minister of Justice has responded and he is the correct person to respond.

“We are appointees of his and it’s not appropriate for me to respond to politicians on this.”
