iTAUKEI Lands and Fisheries Commission (TLFC) chairman Apimeleki Tola will not comment on what has been said about the now vacant Tui Nadi position.
When approached on Monday for a comment, Mr Tola said no public statement would be made from the commission until the matter was resolved.
“E ka beci me da kaburaka e dua na ka baleta na veitalanoa oqo “It is disrespectful to say anything about the discussions on this),” Mr Tola said.
The commission referred all queries to the Solicitor-General’s office.
Mr Tola is scheduled to meet officials from the iTaukei Affairs Ministry this week to discuss the recent decision of the High Court, which ruled that the declaration of Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci as Tui Nadi was void.
The commission, the iTaukei Affairs Ministry and Ratu Vuniyani were respondents, along with the Attorney-General’s Office, in a civil case filed by the late Ratu Kaliova Dawai contesting the decision.
Upon Ratu Kaliova’s death, Ratu Asiveni Dawai took up the case.
Justice Mohammed Mackie said the decision of the iTaukei Lands Appeals Tribunal dated June 1, 2018, and the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission (TLFC) dated December 5, 2017, declaring Ratu Vuniyani the rightful Tui Nadi was unreasonable and irregular.
