Collins’ daughter remains in a ‘worrying’ condition in France

Update: 10:00AM Jerry Collins’ three-month-old daughter remains in a stable, but “worrying” condition in a French hospital, following the crash that killed her parents.

Collins, 34, and his wife Alana Madill died in a road accident in southern France on June 5. Their daughter Ayla was badly injured and remains in hospital in Montpellier.

Beziers public prosecutor Yvon Calvet repeated his statement from six days ago, saying the baby’s condition had not changed and remained worrying.

Calvet said that the results of Madill’s autopsy would not be made public.

Jerry Collins’ body was flown back to Wellington last week and hundreds attended the public farewell for him at Porirua Park on Monday.

Tana Umaga brought his cousin’s body home from France.

He told the crowd of young and old, club stalwarts and those who aspire to be the next Collins, along with his former team-mates, of the tough job he was given to mentor and look after a young Collins.

He was a good man who had found his way in life just before that life was sadly lost along with his partner, Umaga said.
