As we put the 2023 Coca-Cola Games behind us, Sila Central High School coach Esala Talebula says athletes have learned a lot and are planning to come back stronger next year.

The school faced a massive challenge leading up to the Fiji Finals as athletes had to choose which sport they want to take part in.

Talebula said it had cost their preparation with the school bringing 46 athletes. The turnout of athletes too indicated the interest and the future of the sport in Fiji.

The Fiji secondary schools’ rugby league finals will be held this weekend.

“This year our preparation in athletics had a clash with the rugby league,” he said.

“The students had to choose between the two sports and the majority prefer to play league. We had to work with the students that we have,” Talebula said.

“It’s a big challenge for us.

“In terms of development for next year, we have a plan in place to get the players physically fit.

“We have good athletes and we want to develop them.”

Sila Central High School has produced long-distance runners such as Miriama Radiniwaimaro.
