COI report must not gather dust, Jone Usamate demands action

Listen to this article:

Opposition member of parliament, Jone Usamate said the Commission of Inquiry report that looked into the appointment of Barbara Malimali as FiCAC Commissioner must not gather dust.

He said the report is clear and that the actions of the Chief Justice, the Chief Registrar, and the Solicitor General must be accounted for.

“The question now is this: will they step down or be stood down,” he said.

“The same report recommends the reinstatement or compensation of four senior FICAC officers.”

“These were not political appointees. They were career professionals who upheld the law and paid the price for doing so.”

“So I ask, when will these four officers be reinstated? And more importantly, will Acting Commissioner Lavi Rokoika implement the Commission’s recommendations, or will she chart her own course, ignoring the very findings that brought her into office?

Mr Usamate added “this is not about politics.”

“It is about principle. If we allow these findings to gather dust, we send a message that accountability is optional. That cannot be the legacy we leave behind.”

The public deserves answers, and more than that, they deserve action rooted in integrity, not theater.
