THE Fiji women’s indoor volleyball team is undergoing a major transformation as it prepares for the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, with new faces likely to make their mark on the regional stage.

Head coach Emori Bakewa is still finalising the squad, with selections ongoing.

The recent Vanua Volleyball Challenge provided a crucial platform for player assessment, allowing Bakewa to gauge fitness levels and overall performance.

“We are building a competitive team,” Bakewa said.

“Some of the players participated in the Vanua Volleyball Challenge last month, which helped us assess their strengths and areas for improvement.”

One of the key selection criteria for the Palau Mini Games is the inclusion of youth players.

Bakewa is actively scouting for six under-19 players to join the 15-member squad, ensuring a balance of youth and experience.

“The tournament rules require youth participation, so we are looking for talented young players who can step up and perform at the international level,” he added.

Final selections will be made after fitness assessments of players based in the Western Division today.

The team’s preparation will be crucial as they aim to make an impact at the regional competition from June 28 to July 9.

With a determined coaching staff, Fiji’s women’s volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting challenge on the international stage.
