A WORLD premiere and an exclusive viewing of the stage musical/dance production Moana Rua: The Rising of the Sea based on climate change in the Pacific which was performed to a sell-out audience in Norway will be launched tomorrow at Damodar City.
Musical director and Composer Igelese Ete said “the public can expect a powerful Pacific dance/drama production performed by the talented and gifted youths of Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies (OCACPS) of the University of the South Pacific — Pasifika Voices and Oceania Dance Theatre in describing the negative and devastating impact of climate change on our Pacific Islands.
“And it’s part of the vision of USP is to create powerful Pacific world class music, dance, and visual arts to inspire, empower, inform and educate the world,” Mr Ete said.
The Moana Rua: The Rising of the Sea is a new 56-minute film about climate change and sea-level rise in the Pacific, produced by the extraordinary Pacific-European co-operation taking place in the climate change research project ECOPAS (European Consortium for Pacific Studies), funded by the EU with the University of the South Pacific as the project’s main partner in Oceania. The Oceania Dance Theatre and Pasifika voiced performed for audiences that included the Queen and Prime Minister of Norway, and two packed theatre houses saw the Moana drama receiving standing ovations and front page media headlines focused on both the quality of the art and the strong messages about the rising seas.
