Fiji is accelerating the implementation of its enhanced Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC3.0) targets, following its global launch at COP30 in Belem, Brazil.
Speaking at the Fiji’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC3.0) Costed Implementation Plan (CIP) divisional Stakeholder and public consultation workshop in Lautoka yesterday, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change official Reeha Sharma acknowledged the global support from key partners in the sector.
As the first nation to ratify the Paris Agreement in 2016, Fiji’s updated framework presents significantly more comprehensive mitigation and adaptation targets across major sectors, including energy, waste, agriculture, oceans, and loss and damage.
Ms Sharma also highlighted the collaborative effort required to achieve a resilient, low-emission future for the small island developing state.
“This is a critical step in the national process that will define Fiji’s low greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions development trajectory for the next decade; 2025 to 2035,”she said.
Ms Sharma said the development of the NDC3.0 Costed Implementation Plan was being supported by key international partners, including the NDC Partnership and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
“Fiji was the first country to ratify the Paris Agreement in 2016 and thus, is obligated to submit updated NDCs every five years to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).”
