Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) deputy director David Cohen held meetings with several government officials in Suva yesterday, discussing areas of mutual interest and further co-operation to strengthen Fiji-US relations.
Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua confirmed the visit and stated he met Mr Cohen yesterday afternoon.
Mr Cohen and the US delegation also held discussions with the acting Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
Acting PM and Minister for External Trade Manoa Kamikamica also confirmed that he met the high-ranking CIA official. ”
We discussed areas of mutual interest and concern to both countries,” he said.
“The meeting re-affirms the close and unique relationship Fiji has with the United States of America.”
Questions were also sent to the US Embassy in Fiji on Monday and Tuesday regarding Mr Cohen’s visit but no response was forthcoming when this edition went to press.
