Lautoka’s Churchill Park has officially launched the inaugural I-Recycle program at the sporting facility.

Speaking at Global Recycling Day today, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica said the ground-breaking achievement set a benchmark for other sporting venues, public facilities, and business establishments across the country.

“This initiative makes Churchill Park the first sports facility in Fiji and the region to implement a comprehensive sustainable waste management program,” Mr Kamikamica said.

“I urge all sports organisations, public venues and private sector partners to follow this example by integrating sustainable waste management practices into their operations.”

Mr Kamikamica said the Government was fully committed to supporting such initiatives through policy frameworks, financial assistance and strategic partnerships.

“Lautoka City Council has emerged as a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration between government, businesses and community organisations.

“Through the Pacific Recycling Foundation’s ‘Connecting the Dots’ strategy, Lautoka has demonstrated how a city can successfully implement structured waste management solutions that benefit everyone.

“I encourage other towns and municipalities to learn from Lautoka’s success.”

Mr Kamikamica said the Government was eager to expand such models across Fiji to ensure every community has access to proper waste disposal and recycling infrastructure.
