Vidhya Lakhan says is deeply saddened at the sudden passing of an iconic sporting personality and longtime sports administrator Chris Yee.

The Pacific Games Council president said Yee was a meticulous person, who always strove for perfection.

“Chris was one of my vice presidents for a number of years at the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC),” he said.

“He was the ‘main guy’ entrusted to look after Team Fiji’s participation at various regional and international events being the Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games and the pinnacle of all sporting competitions; the Summer Olympics.”

The life member for FASANOC said Yee was a person who preferred to ‘walk the talk’.

“Chris was a thoroughly reliable and a dedicated person who never sought any limelight for all the good he did but opted to continue his work in the ‘background’ and ensured all athletes selected to represent the nation abroad were well catered for. He always used to prioritise the welfare of all Team Fiji athletes.”

Lakhan added Yee had even accommodated a number of athletes at his house over a period of time.

“He used to fork money out from his own pocket to ensure those athletes billeted at his place of residence had their bus fares and game fees to participate in their trainings and competitions respectively.

“He had a heart of gold.”

Lakhan said Yee had left an indelible mark on those who knew him. “We all will miss him.”

Yee passed away earlier in the week.

He was a recipient of the Fijian government’s 50th Anniversary of Independence medal in recognition for his contributions to the country.
