The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital is the first in Fiji to be accredited with the Global Biorisk Advisory CouncilTM (GBAC) STAR™.

As the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response, and recovery accreditation, GBAC

STAR™ helps organizations establish protocols and procedures, offers expert-led training, and assesses a facility’s readiness for biological risk situations.

The program has verified that the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital Fiji implements best practices to prepare for, respond to, and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.

GBAC senior director Dr Gavin Macgregor–Skinner along with RJ Patel, and Gosia Baran traveled to Fiji from the United States to conduct “Cleaning for Health” workshops for infection  prevention and facilitated the on-site hospital assessment at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital.

The GBAC STAR™ accreditation empowers facility owners and managers to assure workers, customers, and key stakeholders that they have proven systems in place to  maintain clean and healthy environments.

“By taking this important step to pursue GBAC STAR™, the Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital Fiji has received third-party validation by implementing best practices and evidence-based protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention, thereby demonstrating its preparedness and commitment to operating safely,” said Dr Macgregor–Skinner.

Hospital director Dr Krupali Tappoo said she was thrilled to receive news of the accreditation and  outlined the compliance procedures which the hospital had to implement and adhere to.

“We are truly humbled to have received this global accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory

Council,” she said.

“We successfully demonstrated compliance with the program’s elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective  equipment, emergency preparedness, and response measures.”

The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital is the South Pacific’s first state-of-the-art pediatric cardiac hospital where all surgeries, treatments and services are completely free of charge. More than 240 life-saving heart surgeries have been performed completely free of charge and over 13,500 free echocardiograms have been conducted at the facility.
