Child abuse victim placed under Emergency State Care; stable condition in hospital

Fiji’s Minister for Women and Children Lynda Tabuya has confirmed that the young girl who was subjected to violence and verbal abuse at the hand of an adult family member will be placed under Emergency State Care until it is safe to return to home.

Ms Tabuya visited the girl at CWM hospital in Suva today.

She said the child was in a stable condition.

She said the young girl was also being interviewed by a ministry welfare officer in the presence of a police officer from the juvenile dept of the Fiji Police Force.

Ms Tabuya had earlier described the incident child abuse and not one of disciplining a child.
