Chess champ Kumar stamps mark as man to beat

Fiji chess champion candid master Manoj Kumar stamped his mark as the man to beat in the sport after winning the University of Fiji and Fiji Chess Federation Rapid Chess Championship last week.

UniFiji has been holding regular competitions for some time, including Fiji’s ongoing first lawn chess series.

Last week, 36 players competed in another UniFiji and Fiji Chess Federation Rapid Chess Championship that was competed in four categories – open, women’s, secondary and primary.

Kumar won the open category, Nikai Ruria won the women’s category, Nisheel Chandra took out the secondary category, while Paul Corpuz won the primary category.
