Close your eyes for just five minutes. Imagine trying to navigate your home, your workplace, or your community in complete darkness.

For hundreds of Fijians, this isn’t an exercise, it is their daily reality.

To help shine a light into that darkness and provide vital support, the Fiji Society for the Blind (FSB), in proud partnership with the Pirates Golf Club, is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

Set against the greens of the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, this event will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

It promises to be an unforgettable day where sport, camaraderie, and community spirit converge for an incredible cause.

While the fairways will be filled with friendly competition, the true heart of this event lies in its mission.

Every single dollar raised will go directly toward funding essential, life-changing programs for Fijians living with visual impairments.

These initiatives include education, mobility support, vocational training, and critical rehabilitation services that empower individuals to lead full, independent lives.

Mrs. Barbara Farouk, Executive Director of the FSB, spoke with deep conviction about what this event truly means.

“This is not just a golf tournament, it is an act of love for our community. Behind every dollar raised is a real person: a child who deserves an education, a parent striving for independence, a neighbour who simply wants to live with dignity. No Fijian should face blindness alone, and this tournament is our promise that they won’t. We are deeply grateful to Frank Chan and the Pirates Golf Club for making that promise possible once again.”

She went on to issue a personal challenge to the wider community: “Close your eyes for five minutes – and truly feel what that darkness is like. For hundreds of our fellow Fijians, that darkness never lifts. Through this tournament, we are raising more than funds. We are raising hope, and we are saying loudly and clearly: you are seen, you are valued, and we will not stop fighting for you.”

Whether you have a single-digit handicap or are just picking up a club for the first time, there is something for everyone.

Participants can look forward to a packed schedule of events, including Thrilling Team Competitions and fun Novelty Holes to test your skills, Raffles and Live Auctions featuring an array of exciting, high-value prizes and a celebratory Prize-Giving Ceremony and Dinner to cap off the day in style.

The event has already garnered incredible backing from the local business community, with generous sponsorships secured from leading organisations including the Fiji Times, Vaerua Fishing, Marsh, S Nagindas, Tanoa Hotels, Munro Leys, Eyesite Optometrist and Shipping Services.

The FSB is calling on corporate teams, seasoned golfers, and enthusiastic newcomers alike to step up to the tee.

Mrs Farouk’s message to the community is both a heartfelt plea and a rallying cry: “You don’t need to be a professional golfer, you just need to care. Come on the August 15, swing a club, share a meal, and know that you are changing lives. Together, we can ensure that every Fijian, no matter what they can or cannot see, has the chance to live a full and independent life.”

Registration is now open, with early interest indicating a strong turnout.

Teams are encouraged to secure their places early.
