NEXT month’s Black and White Charity Ball is a labour of love conceptualised by First Lady Filomena Katonivere and her team of notable names who have come together for a good cause.
On board the project is Sulueti Rabuka, Emily Lalabalavu and Bernadette Rounds Ganilau, all of whom are now in the final stages of preparing for the ball that will light up Fiji’s State House on June 1.
At the State House yesterday, the ladies gathered for another round of discussions to finalise details regarding the menu as they bounced ideas off each other.
Mrs Ganilau said this was a very dynamic group who had decided to band together and raise funds for the Pacific Eye Institute.
The group aims to raise more than $90,000 through ticket sales and a further $50,000 through auction sales.
Mrs Ganilau said the work being done by the institute through its hardworking staff members was commendable, and they wished to help the institute in any way they could.
“We have excellent people in our community,” Mrs Ganilau said.
She also lauded the support from the corporate sector for helping put the event together.
“If people would like to attend this, we have a few tickets left. I’m just so thankful for the love of the community and the corporate sector, all our sponsors who have given without question for this worthy cause and to raise money for eye care health in this country. We must all take care of ourselves, and I thank the First Lady and the two marama, and His Excellency the President for this wonderful opportunity to host it in State House, the first house of the land.”
