NATABUA High School cadets were reminded that character was their commander during the school’s annual cadet corps passing-out parade in Lautoka yesterday.
Chief guest and Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service chief executive officer Dr Apisalome Movono urged cadets to embrace discipline, teamwork and leadership while making the right choices.
“Cadet training is not just about matching and responding to the commands of your superiors; it is about building character,” he said.
“It teaches you, even us here, members of the audience, that discipline matters, teamwork is important, and it is especially important today because you, our young people, face many immense challenges.
“There will be times, ladies and gentlemen and cadets, when no teacher, parent or instructor is present — in those moments, your character is your commander.”
Cadets staged special formations on the parade ground, including a broken syringe and clenched fist to raise awareness about illicit drugs.
They formed “NAT 26” for the cadet corps and displayed the 2026 Commonwealth Games logo above “DI CEVA” in support of deputy head girl and national athlete Adi Ceva Lutumailagi, who is competing at the Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
