FORMER Fiji Water Flying Fijian No.8 Koli Sewabu has been appointed as the Acting CEO of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU).

He was selected by the Board of Directors of the Fiji Rakavi Football Union Ltd after the immediate resignation of Rovereto Nayacalevu from his role as chief executive officer due to personal reasons.

Chairman John Sanday expressed that the union has reached a mutual agreement with Nayacalevu regarding the future direction of the organisation.

The board holds Nayacalevu in high regard and appreciated his contributions during his tenure.

“FRU gives its sincere appreciation to Nayacalevu and to his family for the contribution made during his time and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” said Sanday.

Sewabu brings a wealth of experience both on and off the field, having represented Fiji at the highest levels and held various leadership and development roles within the game.

“Mr. Sewabu’s appointment ensures continuity and stability during this transition.

“We are confident in his ability to lead the organisation as we continue to reform, grow, and elevate Fijian rugby,” he said

Sanday adds the board is optimistic that he will leverage his skills from both management and sports perspectives to enhance the rugby journey in Fiji. Sewabu expressed his appreciation for Nayacalevu’s efforts, acknowledging the challenges faced by Fiji Rugby in recent months and the hard work that Nayacalevu has put in.

The FRU also assured that the transfer of power will not impact the direction or momentum of the ongoing reforms. FRFU Ltd remains committed to strengthening governance and transparency, expanding commercial partnerships and financial sustainability, supporting provincial unions, players, and grassroots development and driving high performance in both the 15s and 7s programs for men and women.
