BODY builder Nilesh Chand says a year of hard work paid off when he won a gold medal in the New Zealand International Federation of Bodybuilding National Championship earlier this month.
He won a gold medal in the “novice body” building category in the 70-80 kilograms, but settled for a silver medal in the classic physique.
“I was committed in my training and it took me over a year to prepare for the competition,” Chand said.
“I won the NZIFBB Northland Champions 2016 which was the qualifying round for the The Nationals 2017.
“I had a good long bulk season followed by 18 weeks competition preparation for the show which was all designed by my nutritionist Jake Campus.”
Chand, 40, even did not enjoy his birthday cake as he had to be on a strict diet for the competition.
“It was the biggest event for me to complete in the competition for the year,” he added.
“This was the competition where all athletes had to be qualified by finishing in top five throughout the year.
“I thank Jesus Christ and my wife Michelle Chand and my kids Rishan, Nisheeta and Nicholas Chand for their support.”
