It was interesting and informative to read an article by Avneel Chand (FT 20.11.17) titled “Male ego hurdle” pertaining to prostate cancer. The article stated that according to Andrew Prasad (Ministry of Health), “male ego is a challenge health personnel face when testing men for prostate cancer”.
Regardless, I acknowledge the Ministry of Health for stressing the importance of advocating on the need for men to get tested for prostate cancer.
I must also thank prostate cancer advocate, Jope Tuivanuavou for his hard work and effort in leveraging the importance of prostate cancer awareness.
According to the World Health Organization, generally, cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells.
It can affect almost any part of the body. The growth often invades surrounding tissue and can metastasize (spread) to distant sites.
In addition, a significant proportion of cancer can be cured by surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, especially if they are detected early.
Therefore, for us men there is no need to be madua and we must ‘man up’ and get tested for this deadly disease before it’s too late.
