Challenge for Fiji Bati reps

IN a bid to build and nurture local rugby players, the Fiji Bati Residents players will have another chance to test their mettle against their Papua New Guinea counterparts later this year.

“The Papua New Guinea Residents are scheduled to play our Fiji Bati Residents in June,” Fiji National Rugby League acting chief executive officer Don Natabe said.

He said the move was a continuation of the relationship between the FNRL and the PNGNRL starting with the Melanesian Cup this weekend.

“We begin with the Melanesian Cup where our Vodafone Cup champion, the Ravoravo Rabbitohs take on the PNG Digicel Cup champion, the Lae Snax Tigers.

Their clubs will also help prepare our Kaiviti Silktails currently in camp for the New South Wales Rugby League Ron Massey Cup.

“Now the opportunity for our residents to play the PNG Residents is just another step in the ladder which will build the game for both nations.”

The PNG Residents and Fiji Bati Residents are expected to play in Fiji on June 20 with the venue yet to be confirmed.
