IT has become a monthly event by the WOWS Kids Fiji — a time of fun for children, volunteers and their well-wishers.
The WOWS Kids Fiji birthday celebration is an initiative to celebrate the lives of children suffering from cancer, those on medication and their family members and volunteers.
As part of the celebration, the organisation collaborated with Fiji Athletics to organise a Street Athletic event in Suva yesterday.
“For us, we like to celebrate the lives of our children every month because we don’t know who is going to leave us next,” WOWS Kids Fiji team leader Fanny Fiteli said.
“Sadly, this month we are missing two who passed away last month. So for us, every single birthday means something. The birthday actually is a memory that we have created for the children and also for the families.
“Previously, we used to host in the hospital with cakes and candles, but this year, I felt there was more to just having cakes and candles. So I decided to involve the bigger communities including the Fiji Athletics, FRU and other corporate bodies.
“Today’s event is to do with inclusion and so all the children who aren’t necessarily active in athletics; this is the program for them.”
Ms Fiteli said this included children with disabilities.
The event featured Younis Bese, Elenoa Sailosi, Aaron Powell and Sisilia Seavula.
