New bird stamps were launched last month marking the national day for Fiji and the Peoples Republic of China, co-organised by entities including the China Academy of Art and the Fiji-China Friendship Association.

The bird stamps are a collaboration between the Chinese Cultural Centre and Post Fiji with the support of the Chinese Embassy.

Stamp designer Guo Zhiyi said the bird stamps represented the bond between Fiji and China.

“It is to reflect the friendship between China and Fiji through imagery of birds in their natural habitats,” Mr Guo said in an interview.

“This symbolism serves as a reminder of our ecosystems and the importance of its protection.”

Mr Guo said the stamps spoke about the two nations’ commitment to sustainable development, focusing on environmental protection and preserving natural habitats.

Post Fiji CEO Isaac Mow said the new stamps were in addition to other stamps they had released in collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Centre.

“We have launched many other stamps similar to this one in the past and I would say that it’s a great way to promote the friendship between our two countries,” Mr Mow said.

He said stamps were a way to showcase Fiji to the world, especially in tourism.
