The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has announced the appointment of Joeli Ratulevu Cawaki as its new chief executive officer.

A former director of DISMAC, naval officer, and acting commander of the Fiji Navy, Mr Cawaki brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, MSAF said in a statement.

“His years of experience in the maritime industry coupled with a proven track record in safety protocol implementation, makes him an ideal leader to guide Fiji’s maritime safety initiatives,” MSAF stated.

In welcoming Mr Cawaki to the role, MSAF chair Josateki Tagi said his extensive experience would lead the authority to new heights in maritime safety.

“The Authority is excited about the future under Mr Cawaki’s leadership and anticipates significant progress in maintaining and enhancing safety measures within Fiji’s maritime domain,” Mr Tagi said.

Minister for Meteorological Services, Public Works and Transport, Filipe Tuisawau was positive about the appointment and said all responsibilities linked to maritime administration would be moved back to MSAF.

In accepting his appointment, Mr Cawaki said he would ensure that safety measures and adherence to global maritime safety standards were upheld.
