Suva residents are being urged to turn in their plastic bottles and cans for cash under the newly launched Return and Earn initiative. Participants can receive 5 cents per item, as part of the city’s efforts to reduce plastic pollution.

The collection runs daily from 9am to 1pm at the Suva City Council’s Health Compost Facility on Fulaga St, Samabula, and on Thursdays at Eagles Court, Raiwai, during the same hours.

Council chairman Tevita Boseiwaqa said the program demonstrates their commitment to protecting public health and the marine environment while encouraging responsible recycling.

“This initiative is part of a broader effort to tackle plastic waste in our city and foster sustainable habits among residents,” Mr Boseiwaqa said.

Similar schemes are already underway in Sigatoka, Lautoka, Lami, Nausori, and Nadi, reflecting a growing push across Fiji to promote cleaner communities and environmental responsibility.

The council is urging everyone to participate, noting that even small contributions can make a significant difference in reducing plastic pollution and safeguarding Fiji’s natural resources.
