THE Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival has secured a three-year sponsorship commitment from Flour Mills of Fiji Ltd.
This is a major boost to the annual event which aims to promote crime prevention and community awareness.
Carnival committee president Satish Kumar announced the sponsorship during the launch of the carnival in Labasa.
Mr Kumar said the agreement followed numerous discussions.
“We will be signing the agreement soon. Last year FMF supported us in a smaller way, but this year they have come on board in a much bigger way for the FMF Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival 2026,” he said.
The carnival is more than a fundraising event, he said, with contestants serving as ambassadors to educate communities on crime, particularly the growing threat of illicit drugs.
“The biggest threat we face today is drugs. These contestants will help educate people throughout the Northern Division. We proudly call ourselves the Friendly North, and we want to keep it that way.”
He said this year’s major community project would be the construction of a classroom at Valelawa in Dreketi where some students were still studying in tents.
