DEFENDING champion Capital Force defeated Western Zeniths 62-40 in round five of the Digicel Punjas Super League at the National Netball Centre in Suva yesterday.
The win for Capital Force meant they have topped the standings for another week and remains on track to defend their title this year again.
Capital Force president Vasiti Vugakoto said: “It was a crucial game for both the teams. We were the two unbeaten teams in the competition,” he said.
“We stuck to our game plan and that is how we managed to edge our opponent the mixture of young and experienced players made the difference in the game.”
Capital Force had the services of national reps Afa Rusivakula, Filomena Korovulavula and Asilika Sevutia while they were assisted by young baby pearls of Merelita Waqanidrolo, Matila Vucea and Talei Waqanibete.
“We were beaten by a team which had young players and they stopped us from playing,” Western Zenith manager Lo Raevuevu said.
“When there was a turnover from the defenders then we were losing the ball in the mid-court. This was one of the biggest weaknesses in the game.
“We will go back and improve on this before playing Capital Force again next weekend.”
