Capital City wins IDC on home soil

THE 2014 Courts Inter-District Championship win has set a good platform for Suva in its campaign this coming season.

The Capital City side defeated Nadi 1-0 at the ANZ Stadium yesterday to win its 13th IDC title.

All Freight Logistics Suva coach Gurjit Singh dedicated the win to the fans, adding their support boosted the morale of the players.

He said the win had set a good platform for the upcoming season.

Suva will be representing the country in the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League (O-League) next year.

Singh said he wanted to build a strong team for the regional tournament.

“O-League is a total different game. I want to build a very good Suva side so we can represent Fiji well,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, the Shop N Save Nadi coach Kamal Swamy said the lapse of concentration in defence resulted in the loss.

He said the team created more opportunities but were unfortunate to lose.

“The players played their hearts out but unfortunately we made one error and lost,” Swamy, the former Suva mentor, said.

“We tried our best. We had more opportunities than Suva but unfortunately we couldn’t score. Suva was a better side today.”

Swamy said the fans should not be disheartened, asking them to keep supporting the team.

“This is not the end for us. Nadi has been consistent throughout the season. We can say it wasn’t our day. Come next year, we will try to get that trophy to Nadi.”
