FOR 60-year-old Camari Serukula Rawatimo of Nakorosule in Naitasiri, grocery shopping is more than just a weekly routine it is a responsibility she proudly carries for her entire family.
Having spent almost 30-years shopping at RB Patel Supermarket, Rawatimo says the supermarket has become her trusted one-stop destination for quality groceries, affordable prices, and reliable customer service.
Living in the highlands of Naitasiri, Rawatimo knows very well the challenges that come with travelling long distances to town for shopping.
Despite the difficulties, she continues to make regular trips to Nausori and Suva to ensure her family has everything they need at home.
“Shopping at this age is actually an advantage,” she said with a smile.
“We know what is best for our family, what products to buy, and how to budget properly. That is why I continue to choose RB Patel for all my grocery needs.”
Rawatimo usually shops at RB Patel Supermarket. Nausori because it is convenient for her when travelling from Naitasiri.
However, whenever she visits Suva, she also shops at RB Patel Supermarket, saying the quality of service remains consistent no matter which branch she visits.
“The customer service is always great, and the supermarket is usually full of shoppers every day.
“That shows people trust the products, the prices, and the variety available instore.”
Coming from a large family household, grocery shopping is a carefully planned task.
Every Friday, family members contribute money towards the weekly groceries, and Rawatimo takes on the responsibility of shopping for everyone.
“We all put together our shares for the groceries, and then I come and buy what the family needs.”
“It is important to shop wisely because life is becoming harder and prices are increasing.”
She said budgeting has become increasingly important as the cost of living continues to rise.
According to her, shoppers must learn to compare products, prioritise essential household items, and avoid unnecessary spending.
“Budgeting and planning your shopping is very important.
“You need to know what to buy and also choose the best products that will last for the family.”
Because travelling from the village to town is not always easy, Rawatimo ensures she writes a detailed shopping list before leaving home.
“In the village, it is difficult when we suddenly run out of something.
“That is why I make sure I write down everything before I leave, so I don’t forget anything important.”
The family usually does bulk shopping once every week. If they happen to run short of certain items by mid week, they rely on a nearby village canteen for smaller purchases.
Although shopping for a large family can sometimes be tiring, Rawatimo says she is grateful for the support she receives from her children, nephews, and nieces.
“I usually do the shopping alone, but sometimes my nephews or nieces come to help me,” she said.
“I’m thankful for my children because they still support and take care of me.”
After nearly three decades of loyalty, Rawatimo says her trust in RB Patel remains stronger than ever, proving that good service, quality products, and customer care can create lifelong shoppers.
