The growing presence of hard drugs in communities is a threat that cannot be ignored, says Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.
Ratu Wiliame said reports of methamphetamine and cocaine had become increasingly common in both urban and rural communities.
“These drugs destroy lives, tear families apart and place our young people at great risk,” he said.
While the Government had established a dedicated task force to strengthen the fight against illegal drugs and related criminal activities, he said the battle could not be won by Government agencies alone.
He said community members had a responsibility to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious behaviour, supporting neighbourhood watch initiatives and looking out for one another.
“Community participation is built on trust, cooperation and shared responsibility.”
He encouraged young people to choose healthy lifestyles and resist harmful influences.
“As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child.
“In the same way, it takes an entire community to protect that child and ensure they grow up in a safe and peaceful environment.
He urged everyone to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agency in addressing crime throughout Fiji.
