Lau Provincial Council chairman, Ratu Meli Saubulinayau – File

ABOLISH the 2013 Constitution!

This was the submission from the people of Lau to the Fiji Law Reform Commission (FLRC) during a consultation on the Electoral Act 2014 with voters who hail from, and have links to Lau.

Lau Provincial Council chairman Ratu Meli Saubulinayau said the province had passed a motion during the last Provincial Council meeting regarding the 2013 Constitution.

“My first submission is on behalf of the province and the people of Lau. We feel that the Constitution should be thrown out because it came through the window, it should go back through the window,” Mr Saubulinayau said.

“The reason I’m saying that it came through the window, is because it didn’t even have the 75 percent of the Parliamentarians to vote for it. It was forced down the throat of the population of Fiji and I don’t feel that that is right.”

He said most of the laws in Fiji, including the Electoral Law, cannot be amended because of the Constitution and the only way to address this was to abolish the Constitution.
