CAKAU Orchid held their nerve to defeat Suva Orchid 6-5 in a tightly contested under-10 tier two quarter-final at the Crest Fiji Primary Schools Netball Tournament at Subrail Park in Labasa.
The match lived up to expectations, with both teams displaying strong defensive pressure and sharp shooting in what proved to be one of the most exciting games of the day.
Cakau made a confident start, edging ahead 3-2 at the end of the first half after capitalising on crucial turnovers and maintaining composure in the shooting circle.
They extended their advantage early in the second spell, moving to a 4-2 lead as Suva struggled momentarily to find rhythm.
However, Suva Orchid fought back gallantly, narrowing the margin to 4-3 and keeping the pressure on their opponents.
Cakau responded quickly to stretch the score to 5-3, but Suva refused to back down, closing the gap again to 5-4.
With the intensity rising, Cakau managed another crucial goal to lead 6-4, forcing Suva into a final push.
Suva added one more goal late in the game, but time ran out as Cakau Orchid secured a narrow 6-5 victory to book their place in the semi-finals.
