FIRST-TIMERS in the 50th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, the Cagivou under-21 rugby team expresses gratitude for the exposure gained on day one at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Despite a slow start and a 0-7 loss to Service Rugby Club in their opening game, the team from Naitasiri is determined to learn from their mistakes and return stronger for their upcoming matches.

Team captain Emosi Namuatabu describes the first game as challenging but sees it as an opportunity for growth and improvement in future matches.

“It was a great match, first match will always be a tough match, but we are looking to improve in other games to come,” said Namuatabu.

He adds with this being their inaugural Marist 7s participation, the team acknowledges the tough competition ahead.

“This is our first Marist 7s and looking at the competition is very tough, looking at some good teams, but we will give all our best on the field.”

Comprised of boys from the village, the team faces financial challenges in preparing for such a significant tournament.

“Our team are made of boys from the village, preparing for this big competition not easy, as we need sponsors to support us.

“Our main aim is to get as much exposure as we can, and work as a team to win matches.”

Namuatabu thanked their supporters and families for their unwavering backing and calls for continued support as they progress in the tournament.
