THE Burebasaga confederacy has pledged full support for the vanua o Lau and its high chief, the Turaga na Tui Nayau, Tui Lau and Sau ni Vanua o Lau Ratu Tevita Mara.
Marama na Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa declared this during a traditional ceremony held yesterday to open the Lau Provincial Council meeting in Tubou Village, Lakeba.
“We, the vanua of Burebasaga will support the Turaga na Tui Nayau, Tui Lau, Sau ni Vanua o Lau,” she said.
Reflecting on her earlier visits to Lakeba, Ro Teimumu praised the preservation of Lauan customs.
“I saw the various traditional ceremonies held in Lau from those days and now, and I have seen your culture and traditions in Lau still intact,” she said.
“I thank you all, the elders on the island for your leadership throughout the years as this is important for our children, the younger generation. This was obvious in the ceremony we saw in Nayau and Lakeba which the world and Fiji also saw.”
Ro Teimumu said those who witnessed the installation were blessed.
“Burebasaga will support the Turaga na Tui Nayau, our vasu and we will always ensure he is well looked after,” she said.
“This traditional ceremony has shown unity among the confederacies and the people who have travelled to Lau bringing their gifts for the ceremony.”
