Lydiane Mucunabitu welcomed her bundle of joy, Charlotte Mucunabitu, on January 1 at 12.34am, making her the first baby born at the Lautoka Hospital this year.

Baby Charlotte came into the world weighing 3.65 kilograms, much to the joy of her mum.

Ms Mucunabitu said she was admitted to the hospital but was later discharged on New Year’s Eve.

“I went home, and I was so tired, so I slept, but when I woke up, I started getting really bad contractions really close to each other, so they rushed me here,” she said.

The new mum said a caesarean section procedure had to be conducted to deliver her baby.

“The team were perfect, especially the doctors. I had a C-section done but I was fully awake the whole time.

“You can’t see what they’re doing, but you can feel the pressure of them moving the baby out.”

Ms Mucunabitu described the emotional experience following the birth of her daughter.

“My husband had to wait outside the theatre, the most emotional part for me was hearing the baby cry for the first time.

“My advice to other new mums is to not overthink the process and don’t panic because your body knows what to do when it’s time.”

Ms Mucunabitu said her family were excited to see her daughter.
