ONE of Fiji’s former top rugby league clubs is back.
The defunct Nausori Bulldogs Rugby League Club has been revived and will be part of the Fiji National Rugby League local competition from the next season.
Secretary Joeli Savou said former players and some Fijian greats helped in the revival.
“This was initiated and financially supported by ex-players who are now residing overseas such as Ratu Orisi Cavuilati, Pio Nakubuwai, Niumaia Korovata, Ropate Senikuraciri, Savenaca Tuilakeba, Ian Sagaitu, Semi Delana, Panapasa Tuilau,Waisake Vatubua, Ovalase Toduadua and Waisake Kativerata,” he said.
The club paid its registration fee of $1000 to the FNRL and will be starting with off-season training next Wednesday at Sila Central High School ground at 5pm.
“Club officials are recruiting players who want to play rugby league around the Nausori area. Once we get the numbers and ages of the players then we will be able to determine the number of juniors and senior teams to field for next year’s competition.
“Since the club is now under the FNRL, we await the season planned by the organisation as to when the season starts for the club’s official games to be played.
“The club was revived in 2013 under the name Nausori Cowboys which also had an academy and produced players who are now playing abroad such as Viliame Kikau, Emori Tuisese and Josaia Wini,” Savou said.
