THE Fiji Bulikula’s journey to Australia is more than a rugby league tour, it is a chance for emerging female players to showcase their talent, gain valuable experience and move closer to professional opportunities.
Five Fiji Bulikula players will take the next step in their rugby league journey today as they depart for Australia to compete in the Rise Rookie Tour – Harvey Norman Invitational.
The players were farewelled yesterday at the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) House ahead of the tour, which will run until August 2 and provide the squad members with valuable exposure in a high-performance environment.
The initiative is designed to empower emerging athletes, develop their skills and provide a clear pathway towards NRLW scouting and recruitment opportunities.
For Bulikula coach Simeli Kurisavulevu, the tour marks an important milestone as he prepares to lead the squad in his third overseas assignment.
Kurisavulevu said taking the team overseas comes with challenges, particularly in ensuring players and coaches are prepared to meet the demands of international competition.
“It is quite a challenge in terms of our equipment and training programs, and also the challenges in trying to build up the coaches to get the players in the correct place where they need to perform,” he said.
The coach said player selection focused on key areas including strength, speed, experience and past performances.
