Fiji Bulikula captain Josephine Maejiirs is in the country from Australia for the 2023 Fijian Cup tournament.

Maejiirs, who has had a major hand in the development of women’s rugby league in the country, said the nines tournament was an opportunity for the local players to test themselves against international opponents.

“We have some very good rugby players from Australia here and the locals have a great opportunity to play and learn from them,” she said.

With women’s rugby league gaining momentum in the country, she said the tournament was a good platform for players to make a name for themselves.

“These are tournaments where talent is scouted. We have a number of overseas clubs here so who knows, a few of these girls may get contracts after the tournament.”

The two-day tournament ends with the finals today.
