The Bula Lade women’s volleyball team won the Namaka Volleyball women’s final defeating Susa in three straight sets at Namaka Public School.
Their impressive performance earned them a $1000 prize money.
Team captain Sally Aitcheson attributed their success to the team’s unwavering unity, a theme they carried throughout the competition.
“Our main message throughout the game was unity, regardless of whether we win or lose,” she said.
Interestingly, the team’s journey to the championship was far from conventional.
“We didn’t plan for this team,” Aitcheson revealed.
“Each of us was doing our own individual training, and we came together for this tournament.”
Despite their triumph, the Bula Lade team faced significant challenges, particularly with the scorching Western heat.
“Some of our players came from Suva, and they really struggled with the heat here. It was very hot, and that was one of our main challenges,” Aitcheson explained.
The team’s diversity also stood out, with members hailing from both Lautoka and Suva. Their ability to overcome these hurdles and work cohesively as a unit was a testament to their determination and resilience.
