Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne emphasised the importance of focusing on getting their game right and bringing energy to the field as they prepare to face Australia this weekend.
Despite facing some challenges such as weather conditions and players coming from different environments, the team has been diligently working on getting everyone on the same page and incorporating their game plan.
“We have a little bad weather here, with a bit of cyclone, but we are getting through it well, full credit to the players for the way they have gone about preparing themselves,” said Byrne.
The team’s preparation has been commendable, with players putting in the effort to absorb all the information and adapt to the game plan.
“I think we are just trying to get each other across the whole game, we haven’t been focused on any specific area during training.
“We got players that came in from 15 different environments on Friday, so it’s about all of us trying to get on the same page around the whole game.”
With the goal of winning in mind, Byrne recognised the significance of each match as they lead up to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
“Our focus is on getting our game right and our energy, we are expecting the Wallabies to be tough in any stage, so we will be looking forward for that.
“It is a very important game, we are going in to the test match, or we go into every game wanting to win, and it’s an important path of our journey, as we lead to the World Cup.
With a commitment to stepping up and performing well against tough opposition, the team is dedicated to showcasing their skills and determination on the field.
“We got 10 tests matches against tier one teams in the next two years and that starts on Sunday, we are representing ourselves in that category, so we need to step up and do well.”
The Test against the Wallabies kicks off on Sunday at 3.30pm at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.
Following that, the Flying Fijians return to the country to prepare for the highly anticipated Test against Scotland at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
