Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has assured members of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants that there would be no new taxes introduced as Fiji prepares for the 2025/2026 National Budget.
He told members at the FICA Congress 2025 held at Crowne Plaza in Nadi that Government would focus instead on closing compliance gaps.
“The budget would prepare for possible global economic slowdowns by increasing operational spending on social welfare, farming support, and infrastructure, “he said.
Professor Prasad thanked development partners for continued support and acknowledged FICA’s vital role in shaping Fiji’s economic future.
Meanwhile, Prof Prasad has reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to regional integration, economic resilience, and global engagement.
“Fiji’s foreign policy under the new National Development Plan 2025–2029 and Vision 2050 focuses on building strong international partnerships, securing the Pacific as an “ocean of peace,” and driving prosperity through trade and cooperation, “he said.
Professor Prasad emphasized the importance of aligning development partner programs with national priorities and called for deeper regional ties, including a visa-free Pacific and shared infrastructure development.
