The 2026-2027 National Budget has delivered a major boost for sports development with the Government introducing new tax incentives aimed at increasing private sector investment in elite sport and grassroots infrastructure.

While delivering the National Budget in Parliament today, Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, sports development and community wellbeing.

One of the key announcements was the extension of the existing 200 per cent tax deduction for sponsorship of the Fijian Drua to include Bula FC, providing businesses with greater incentive to support Fiji’s professional sporting teams.

The Government has also lowered the minimum sponsorship threshold from $250,000 to $100,000, making the tax incentive more accessible to a wider range of businesses willing to invest in sport.

In another significant move, Government will introduce a 150 per cent tax deduction for investments in new sporting facilities, gyms and sports development infrastructure.

The new measure is expected to encourage greater private sector investment in modern sporting facilities across the country while strengthening opportunities for athlete development and increasing community access to quality recreational spaces.

Mr Immanuel said the initiatives reflected the Government’s ongoing commitment to building healthier communities and supporting the growth of sport throughout Fiji.
