Brother Fergus Garrett, possibly one of the oldest Marist Brothers, turned 90 years old on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, he arrived in Fiji in 1970 as a teacher to the Marist Brothers and later founded the Marist Champagnat Institute. Ever since his arrival, he has called Fiji “home”.

“The secret to a long and healthy life is good genes,” Br Fergus said.

“My mother’s parents died in their 90s, my parents’ siblings all passed away in their 90s and my siblings have reached this age and now me.”
