Bring back town and city council elections. This was Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) president Dr Ram Raju’s plea to The People’s Alliance-National Federation Party-Social Democratic Liberal Party coalition government.

While congratulating the new administration for taking up office, he said NCCI was ready to work closely with the Government and called on them to fast track municipal council polls.

“The town and city council elections should be one of the top priorities,” Dr Raju said.

“This has been long overdue and I am aware of the manifestos which called for the Local Government elections within a short period.”

Dr Raju added that Nadi’s declaration as a city was also long overdue.

“Nadi should be the greenest and cleanest town or city. Prince Charles Park should be upgraded to an international sports stadium. Likewise Nadi Hospital should be renovated or rebuilt to international standards or simply turned into a super hospital to attract medical tourism.”

He said other issues pertaining to the tourist town that needed to be dealt with included drainage and flooding issues that continued to plague Nadi.

“All flood mitigation measures are yet to be implemented and I am hoping this could be fast-tracked.”
