TEAM Boxing Brave Club (TBBC) boxers Sainivalati Ratu and Eliseo Cakaunivalu are ready to fly Fiji’s flag at the Fiji versus Samoa Pro-Am Boxing Event being held as part of Samoa’s 64th Independence celebrations on June 5 in Samoa.
The pair will lead Fiji’s professional challenge against the host nation, while three amateur boxers are also expected to arrive in Apia tonight to complete the Fiji contingent.
Ratu will square off against Samoa’s Jolando Lala Ta’ala in the heavyweight division, while Cakaunivalu faces Saliuafi Loane in a middleweight clash.
TBBC head coach Osea Nanovu said the opportunity to represent Fiji on an international stage was a proud moment for the club.
“It means a lot to us and our club to be invited to represent Fiji at an event like this,” Nanovu said.
“It shows the progress our boxers have made and the confidence organisers have in our athletes. Whenever you represent Fiji, there is a responsibility to perform and make the country proud.”
Nanovu said his fighters were aware of the challenge that awaited them against the home favourites.
“We have watched our opponents, and they are very skilful and fast fighters, but we will test them out. We have a game plan in place, and the boys have prepared well.”
The veteran trainer expects fierce contests when the two Pacific nations meet in the ring.
“When the islanders meet, it’s the warriors having a go at each other. There is always pride on the line.”
Nanovu said both fighters were determined to give their best and proudly fly Fiji’s flag in Samoa.
