A boxer from Fiji has tested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) while in Australia for a boxing promotion, as confirmed by Adi Narayan, chairman of the Boxing Commission of Fiji.
Due to the positive test, the boxer was unable to compete in his scheduled mid-October bout.
Narayan stated that the commission will await a report from the boxer’s trainer and manager upon their return before deciding on any actions to be taken.
The boxer is still in Australia, and the commission is monitoring the situation closely as they gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the test.
Meanwhile, Ubayd Haider, formerly known as Nathan Singh remains admitted at Lautoka Hospital in a critical condition.
Haider had a surgery done on him after receiving injuries to his head in the fight against Runqi Zhou in Nadi on Saturday.
