Boston White sets basketball target

RAIWAQA-BASED Boston White basketball team wants to build a stronger team in future in the area.

The side finished second in the Powerade Basketball Fiji Winston appeal competition at the Vodafone Arena in Suva last weekend.

Team captain Bua Low Chee said they were looking for a sponsor for their team.

“Our plans are to develop more players for future and we have fielded another team Mighty Might and hopefully in the future we will have a good squad in future.

“We are also working with the teams to have a good basketball platform in Raiwaqa.

“It had been a good competition for us and we played really well.”

He said the players had been sacrificing a lot towards the club.

“Everyone has played well and as a team. We had come prepared well for the competition. There’s no secret really but it is the bond between each other in the team which helped us a lot.

“We always played as a team no matter who we came across.

“Players had been doing their part well in the training every morning at five so I guess that is what was needed.”

The side had national players Pita Gus Sowakula, Manoa Puamau, John Kunau and Esala Banuve.

Chee said the expertise of the national players had been vital factor for the team.

“They have been good and gave us the good pointers in the game. They are giving us a lot of advice,” he said.

“The players are doing their own fundraising for the club in terms of getting the jerseys and we are looking for a sponsor.

“It is difficult for the club. At the moment we have vests but it does not matter weather we have vests or jersey it is our performance which matters the most.”

The side was beaten by USP 33-30 in the final.
