A wave of joy and nostalgia swept through Kuladrusi this week as descendants of William and Agnes (née Whippy) Simpson reunited for a memorable four-day family gathering that celebrated heritage, love and enduring family connections.
Relatives travelled from across Fiji and overseas, including the US, New Zealand and Australia, to return to the place where the Simpson family story began.
From July 8 to July 11, Kuladrusi was transformed into a vibrant meeting place where generations came together to reconnect, share memories and strengthen family bonds.
The reunion brought together family members of all ages —from toddlers meeting distant cousins for the first time to elders recounting treasured stories of the family’s early years.
Storytelling sessions, cultural activities and shared meals provided opportunities for relatives to rediscover their roots while creating new memories for future generations.
The event was organised by Lesley Ieremia (née Wood), whose careful planning ensured a meaningful program that honoured the family’s history while celebrating its continued growth across the globe.
The 2026 reunion embraced the theme “Dou Veilomani” — meaning Love Each Other — which resonated throughout the four-day celebration.
The message encouraged relatives to cherish one another, nurture family relationships and remain united despite the distances separating them.
For many attendees, returning to Kuladrusi was an emotional experience.
The estate, rich in family history, offered a fitting backdrop for reconnecting with relatives, retracing family roots and learning stories that have been passed down through generations.
The reunion concluded on Saturday evening with a colourful gala night featuring music, cultural performances, dancing and heartfelt speeches.
Family members reflected on the significance of gathering in the place where their ancestors built the foundations of a legacy that now spans continents.
As the celebrations drew to a close, relatives departed with more than photographs and keepsakes.
They left with renewed friendships, stronger family ties and a shared commitment to uphold the values embodied in this year’s theme.
The Simpson family’s 2026 reunion served as a powerful reminder that while time and distance may separate loved ones, the bonds of family remain steadfast when nurtured with love, respect and togetherness — Dou Veilomani.
